Some
Basic(Core) Knowledge of Computer :
What is Core ?
- “Core” is a microprocessor inside the
central processing unit (CPU), i.e. if you have a dual core then you have 2
microprocessor in your CPU, as one
microprocessor can only do one thing at a time, so it will allow you to do two
things at a time.
What is Cache Memory ?
- Cache memory is RAM (Random Access Memory) that a computer microprocessor can access more quickly than it can access
regular RAM.
Different Processors :
- Pentium Dual Core, which has 1 MB cache,
you might think, C2D is a better choice. However, think again when you see
Pentium Dual Core will only cost you merely RM 200. (RM 200 cheaper to C2D same
GHz)
2) Intel Core 2 Duo :
- Intel Core 2 Duo processors are the next gen processors from Intel. It is developed
with a new Architecture called Core. The new architecture of Intel core2 duo
makes it a lot better processor that runs cool. Most importantly the Intel
core2 duo is a super over clocker.
- A Core 2 Duo on the other hand is also a Dual Core processor but it is
manufactured by Intel and is part of the "Core 2" series. The
"2" in the "Core 2" only means, that this series is from
the second generation. There is, for example, the "Core 2 Quad", which
obviously has 4 cores.
- Dual
Core = general term for all processors with two cores
- Core 2
= series of processors manufactured by Intel
- Core 2
Duo = Intel processor with two cores
- Core 2
Quad = Intel processor with four cores
- Core 2 Duo processor has 2, 3, 4 or
even 6 MB Cache, depend on the product code. The cheapest C2D has 2 MB cache,
which around RM 400 right now.
3) Core
i3 :
- Uses 4 threads, contains Hypo threading
technology (Hyper Threading means used in certain Pentium 4 processors and all
Intel Xeon processors.Enables the processor to execute two threads, or sets of
instructions, at the same time. ).
- It has 2-4 cores.
- Contains a 3-4 MB Cache.
- i3 designed for low-mid range
operation.
- Uses less heat and energy than earlier
processors, which is always a good thing in this day and age.
4) Core
i5 :
- Uses 2-4 threads, contains
Turbo Boost(Enables the processor to run above its base operating frequency via
dynamic control of the CPU's "clock rate") technology.
- It has 2-4 cores, higher clock speed
than core i3.
- Contains a 3-8 MB Cache.
- i5 is good for med-high operation.
- This is also a heat and energy
efficient processor, but it does seem to be better at this particular job than
the Core i3 processor.
5) Core
i7 :
- Uses 8 threads, Contains
hypo threading &Turbo Boost both Technology (That enough to get the job done
quickly).
- It has 4 cores, higher clock speed
than core i3 and i5.
- Contains a 4-8 MB Cache.
- i7 great for high-ultra operation
newest technology.
- It is also more energy efficient and
produces less heat.
